About

Dr. V. S. Jeyakanthan is presently serving as Scientist-G at the Deltaic Regional Centre, NIH, Kakinada. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Remote Sensing) from Anna University, along with an M.Tech in Remote Sensing and a B.E. in Civil Engineering. His academic and professional specialization lies in remote sensing and GIS applications for water resources, particularly reservoir capacity estimation, sedimentation assessment, and hydrological modeling. His research work has been instrumental in developing and refining per-pixel and sub-pixel image classification techniques, linear mixture models, and multi-sensor satellite data approaches for accurate assessment of sedimentation and capacity loss across major South Indian reservoirs. He has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator for sponsored R&D and consultancy projects funded by the Ministry of Water Resources/National Hydrology Project. Notably, he has led large-scale studies on sedimentation assessment of major reservoirs integrating optical and microwave remote sensing technologies. Dr. Jeyakanthan has international exposure, having undergone UNDP-supported fellowship training at the National Hydrology Research Institute, Saskatoon, Canada. He is also deeply involved in capacity building, having organized and conducted multiple training programmes, workshops, and short courses for engineers and professionals on hydrology, remote sensing and urban flood management. In addition, he has guided post-graduate research students from leading institutions, delivered invited lectures and webinars across universities and training institutes, and contributed to national knowledge dissemination initiatives.
