About

Dr. Ravindra V. Kale is a scientist in the Surface Water Hydrology Division, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee. His research areas of interest includes water-related disaster risk reduction, rainfall-runoff modeling, flood modelling, hydrological modeling, integarated water resources management and planning, climate change impact assessment on water resources, sprinkler and drip irrigation system design, pipe flow hydraulics, hydrometerology, infiltration phenomena, drainage system design etc. He did his B. Tech in Agricultural Engineering (1998-2002) from the Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri, Maharashtra, India and M. Tech in Agricultural Engineering (2002-2004) from Department of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, College of Technology, G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar - 263 145, Uttarakhand State. He has received his PhD Degree in the field of hydrological modelling (2004-2010) from Department of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IITR). He has completed JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program (KCCP) and a GRIPS master’s degree program (2018-2019) in “Disaster Management Policy: Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction (by GRIPS/ICHARM, Japan)” supported by Official Development Assistance from the Government of Japan. He is visiting Scientist at International Institute of System Anlysis (IIASA), Laxenburg, Austria under TIFAC Funded India-IIASA project. He received “IWRS Best Research Paper Award 2013” by Indian Water Resources Society, India. The M. Thesis entitled “Two-Dimensional Overland Flow Model Using the Variable Parameter McCarthy-Muskingum Method [Student: Shakya, Ravi, 2015]” Co- Supervised by him (Supervisor: Dr. M. Perumal, Prof., Deptt. of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee) was selected for “Katpalia award for the session 2014-15 for the best dissertation in M. Tech. (Environmental Engineering) Hydrology in the area of Environment Aspect” by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. He also Received Outstanding presentation award (as group leader) by GRIPS (Tokyo Japan) during Fourth GRIPS Integrated Student Seminar: Disaster Management Policies on 29th November, 2018. He has served as a Member of Committee on “Flood Risk Management” of International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) [Since April 2022]. He is a Member of “Sub Group B-1.4 on "Hydraulics of Bridges", by Indian Road Congress, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, New Delhi (Since April 2022). He is serving at National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee from October 2010- March 2016, from April 2016 to August 2022 at WHRC, NIH Jammu, and from August 2022 at SWHD, NIH Roorkee. During his service tenure, he has attended more 30 training courses organized by various reputed academic and central government institutes in India. He is associated in conduction of 17 Training Programmes/workshop/symposium/Brain storming sessions at national level.
