About

Dr. Sumant Kumar is working as a Scientist-E at National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee which is a premier R & D autonomous organization under Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India. He did his M.Tech. in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering from I.I.T Kanpur and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from IIT Roorkee. He has approx. 17 years of professional experience in design and R&D work in the field of groundwater and environmental hydrology. His area of research are Hydrogeological Investigations, Groundwater Contamination, Groundwater Modelling, Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR), Rainwater Harvesting (RWH), Urban Stormwater Management, and River Bank Filtration (RBF). He has received various prestigious awards at International and National forum, such as postdoc position under Oregon water Initiatives Program at Oregon State University, USA; Ibaraki Kasumigaura award from Governor of Ibaraki Prefecture, Govt. of Japan; Young Scientist award from DST, Govt. of Uttarakhand; Best Journal paper award from Indian Water Resources Society (IWRS), Roorkee and many more. He has published 35 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 29 papers in conferences. He has also contributed 11 chapters in different edited book published by reputed publishers. He has completed 31 sponsored & consultancy projects as PI or Co-PI. Dr. Kumar had been on official tour to foreign countries and has visited 4 foreign countries (USA, Japan, Netherland and France) under different research program/project meetings/conference. He is life member of 4 professional societies dealing with hydrology and water resources. He is supporting the water professionals by contributing as an Associate Editor of a reputed journal “Sustainable Water Resources Management”. He is actively involved in research, capacity building and consultancy activities related to groundwater and environmental hydrology at National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee. Prior to joining NIH, he worked as an Engineer at TATA Consulting Engineers (TCE) Ltd. Pune for approx. 3 years.
